Russian ‘Thief-in-Law’ Shot Dead in Moscow Gym April 12, 2021 Ali Heydarov Screenshot YouTube Ali Heydarov, a Russian “thief-in-law” known as Albert Ryzhiy, was shot dead in a northwest Moscow gym Monday afternoon, Interfax reported.  “Thief-in-law” is a Russian term referring to powerful members of the criminal underworld. Surveillance camera footage published by the 47news.ru news website shows Heydarov using an elliptical as an unknown man enters the gym, shoots at him and then leaves.  Heydarov died at the scene, Interfax reported.  The Moscow department of Russia’s Investigative Committee said it has opened a criminal case into murder and illegal arms trafficking following the incident. It did not specify the victim’s name.

Anton Novoderezhkin / TASS A second Russian police officer has been suspected of leaking security officers’ travel data from the day of opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s poisoning, the Kommersant business daily reported Monday.  A major media investigation in December published the names of Federal Security Service (FSB) chemical-weapons experts who it said tailed Navalny for years, including on the day of his August 2020 poisoning. The Bellingcat investigative outlet which led the investigation has said it used flight manifests and phone records obtained on the black market to trace the secret FSB squad’s movements.

Kirill Zykov / Moskva News Agency Two coronavirus patients hospitalized outside Moscow have died following an oxygen outage in at least the fourth such incident in recent months, regional health officials confirmed to Russian media Wednesday. A malfunction is believed to have caused the oxygen supply interruption at the coronavirus wing of the hospital in the western Moscow region district of Odintsovo, emergency crews told state media. The two patients deaths were a result of their severe illness and were not caused by the oxygen outage, the Moscow region health ministry said.
