Commissioners approve school resource officers

GREENVILLE The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Monday afternoon to discuss fund transfers, recycling and county school resource officers. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall, and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board approved Resolution (R-154-2021), to transfer $30,000 from the general fund to the annual court research and computerization fund. This is the first of three annual $30,000 fund transfers that will go toward updating the Darke County Common Pleas Court research and computer system. The court will receive $90,000 total by 2024 for its planned updates.
Next, the board approved an Addendum to Contract between Darke County Solid Waste and Rumpke of Ohio. The addendum ensures Rumpke will provide a second recycling bin to Butler Township. A second bin is needed due to the large amount of service the first bin receives.
Commissioners sign Farm Power of The Past Proclamation

GREENVILLE The Darke County Board of Commissioners met on Wednesday to sign the Greenville Farm Power of The Past Proclamation and to discuss fund advances. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board signed the Greenville Farm Power of The Past Proclamation which proclaims the Greenville Farm Power of The Past will hold its annual equipment show on July 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11. The event will feature International Harvester gas engines and Sears Lawn & Garden. Attendees will include the International Harvester Collectors and the Midwest Regional Hot-Air Engineer Society.
Grand Funk Railroad frontman to hold concert in Versailles

VERSAILLES Musician Mark Farner considers himself a rock patriot. As the son of a World War II veteran, and the platinum-recording frontman for the original Grand Funk Railroad, he’s not very far off.
Farner grew up in Flint, Mich., and got his start in music at weekly jam sessions with family.
“We would have everyone in the family play,” he said. “My grandpa played fiddle and banjo, Uncle Woody played the guitar and sang, my dad blew saxophone and played guitar. But when the women sang, it was like, ‘Oh my god.’ This music really got into me, it got me interested in wanting to be in music as a youngster.”
Ellsworth High School graduation plans finalized
ELLSWORTH In a return to a more traditional graduation, Ellsworth High School seniors will gather with family and friends at 6 p.m. on June 11 at Del Luce Stadium. The outdoor setting is a nod to COVID-19 restrictions and fears but allows seniors to invite up to eight people to attend. The rain date is June 12 at 6 p.m.
And the success of last year’s car parade, held so the community could honor graduates in a pandemic year, will be carried over on Class Night on June 3, with t wo tickets issued to each graduating senior for family to join.

GREENVILLE The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Monday afternoon to discuss The Ohio State University Extension, roadway resurfacing and county debt. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall and Larry Holmes were all present.
Dr. Roseanne Scammahorn, educator in family and consumer sciences at The Ohio State University Extension, gave the board an update on the extension. Scammahorn said the agriculture and natural resources department is planting manure side-dress research, planting early soybeans and continues to make farm visits and cold calls to producers and agricultural industry partners. She added the agricultural program continues to scout Darke County acreage in each major crop one day a week at minimum.
