Poultry farms close down due to ‘hefty losses’
Association warns of shortage of chicken meat, eggs
LAHORE:
The poultry sector is still in a phase of crisis and government’s intervention to control prices may further worsen the scenario, said Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) North Zone Vice-Chairman Raja Attique-ur-Rehman Abbasi.
At a press conference on Monday, Abbasi highlighted that poultry was one of the most organised branches of agri-based sector in Pakistan.
“Prices of chicken products are determined purely on the basis of market supply and demand,” he said, adding, “This is why at times prices of chicken products are below the input cost borne by the farmers and they are compelled to sell their commodity at a price lower than the cost of production and hence bear losses.”

KARACHI: Rising prices of raw materials in local and world markets are causing extensive price pressure on various essential commodities, either edible or those used as raw material or fuel in industry. Rising demand as well as escalating global prices are driving the phenomenon.
