WPV1 + cVDPV2 Cases:
Every month, surveillance system report, investigate and confirm poliovirus cases. In January, the first case of WPV1 of the year has been confirmed in a child from Balochistan. The geographical representation of this case is as below as below:

The surveillance system also confirmed emergence of two cVPDV2 cases in January 2021. Of the two cases, one is from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the other one is from Balochistan. The geographical representation of these cases is as below as below:

Pakistan Polio Eradication Programme launched a five-day National Immunization Days (NIDs) campaign from 11-15 January 2021. ISLAMABAD: With 504,500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine having been dispatched to the federating units, Pakistan is expected to receive another 5.6 million vaccines by the end of March.
As so far only 72,882 frontline healthcare workers have got themselves vaccinated in the country, the government has decided to start registering general health professionals, too, from Monday (Feb 22) for the vaccination programme. The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Saturday announced that general healthcare workers could register themselves on www.covid.gov.pk/vaccine.
Also, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health Dr Faisal Sultan announced the second phase of Covid vaccination. A five-day national polio immunisation drive had initiated on January 11 to vaccinate over 40 million children under the age of five across the country.
But on January 12, a security officer was martyred in a gun attack on a polio team in Karak. According to the DPO, the polio team was unhurt in the attack but the officer providing security was shot dead. On the same day, people from Batwar had requested local authorities to provide them with internet services in exchange for their permission to administer polio drops to their children.

A policeman was killed after unidentified men attacked a polio team in a village in Karak Tuesday morning.
The polio team remained safe during the attack and have been shifted to a secure place, the police said. The policeman was driving a motorcycle as the polio workers were giving polio drops to the children.
