ISLAMABAD: International Aisamul Haq Saturday decided not to play singles for the country anywhere, saying that he had communicated his decision to the high-ups of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF).
Talking to âThe Newsâ, Aisam said he had been playing singles in the Davis Cup for the last eight years for the sake of the country.
âMy body cannot bear excessive physical demands for singles game. Moreover, it damages my doublesâ performance too. Though I left playing singles almost eight years back, I continue representing the country in the Davis Cup singles as no back-up player was available to support Aqeel. Now I donât think my body can tolerate it anymore,â the 41-year old veteran who represented Pakistan in over 95 Davis Cup matches so far, said.

Japan s doubles pair came from a set down to defeat an experienced Pakistan duo in the Davis Cup World Group I first-round match in Islamabad on Saturday, booking a place in the 2022 qualifiers.
Shintaro Mochizuki and Sho Shimabukuro beat Aisamul Haq Qureshi and Aqeel Khan 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, in one hour and 47 minutes.
Adding to their wins in both of Friday s singles clashes, Japan took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the tie overall.
They will fight for a place in the Davis Cup via next year s qualifiers, while Pakistan head for the World Group I play-offs.

A meeting of the Ministry for Inter-Provincial Coordination (MIPC) was chaired by Pakistan Sports Board President Dr Fehmida Mirza to chalk out a comprehensive security plan and administrative arrangements for the upcoming Davis Cup Tie between Pakistan and Japan to be played on March 5 and 6 at Pakistan Sports Complex in Islamabad.
Federal Minister for IPC Dr Fehmida welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of the Davis Cup Tie to be played in Pakistan as holding of any international sports event in the country helps build its soft image while also ushering in a conducive environment in the country that paves the way for holding other international events.
