Haas driver Nikita Mazepin has said that he is surprised by how intense Formula 1 is but is anticipating improvements throughout the season.
The Russian driver has found life in F1 difficult so far, with several spins in the opening round resulting in crashing out after just three corners in the Bahrain Grand Prix. Mazepin did however reach the chequered flag in the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix last weekend.
The Haas driver and his teammate Mick Schumacher are new to the grid, and it’s particularly tough for them knowing that Haas won’t develop, what appears to be, a tricky car to drive. Mazepin and Schumacher joined F1 from F2 and the pair are on a steep learning curve.

Pierre Gasly says he does not care about Helmut Marko’s estimation of his qualifying pace compared to Max Verstappen.
Marko, head of Red Bull’s driver development programme, was less complimentary than most about Gasly’s excellent qualifying performance at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
The Frenchman bagged a highly creditable P5 on the grid for AlphaTauri. But Marko’s reaction? That Verstappen would have been a quarter of a second faster had he been in the same car.
The relationship between Gasly and the 77-year-old Red Bull F1 kingpin has soured in the last couple of years since Marko presided over a driver swap halfway through the 2019 campaign.

Valtteri Bottas has said that Mercedes still do not think they have the fastest car heading into the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, despite the Finn leading a one-two for the team in both practice sessions on Friday.
Bottas led both FP1 and FP2 from teammate Lewis Hamilton, while Max Verstappen saw issues wreck his Friday afternoon running.
The Dutchman was close behind the two Mercedes cars in FP1, while the reigning champions believe that Red Bull had the edge on pace at last month’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
Although they might not be fully satisfied with their relative performance level, Mercedes certainly seem more happy with their car than they have for much of the season so far and Bottas said that he was “much happier with the balance of the car” following the end of Friday running.
