CHATHAM, NJ The Great Swamp Watershed Association acquired 10 acres of open space in Chatham Township. Thanks to a family s donation, the environmental organization now holds 86.5 preserved acres in the Great Swamp watershed.
The space is located at the end of Evergreen Road in the Black Brood sub-watershed one of the five sub-watersheds in the Great Swamp. The property connects to a large amount of preserved open space, which includes the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, along with a 3.5-acre tract of land known as the Hoag Property that the watershed association acquired 20 years ago.

“This morning at approximately 10:48 a.m., the Kearny Police Department received a call reporting a body in the Passaic River in the area behind 175 Passaic Ave. Police and fire officials responded and recovered the body of a deceased adult male from the river,” King said.
He continued that the cause and manner of death are pending an examination by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, though the incident does not appear to have been criminal at this time.
King further stated that the identification of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and no further information was immediately available.
Teen plunges through thin ice at Central Park pond
It happened near 59th Street and Fifth Avenue on Monday.

The teen is doing okay, thanks to the heroics of a stranger. The boy’s mom is sending out a sincere thank you to that hero.
The 14-year-old boy was heard screaming for help after falling through thin ice in the partially frozen pond.
A few hours after that terrifying incident, Caloway talked to the boy and his mom at their home in Astoria.
“And that water was up to his shoulders. And I even asked my son, I said, ‘You were scared?’ And he said, ‘Yeah,’” the mother said.
