The accountability witch-hunt initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan was always a farce with a clear motive to remove former premier Nawaz Sharif and his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
From hasty decisions to putting Nawaz s children Maryam and Shahbaz behind bars without any solid evidence, Imran Khan and his backers have also sought to settle political scores with the PML-N, writes Imad Zafar for Asia Times.
According to retired director-general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon, Prime Minister Imran Khan tried to pressure him to charge Maryam, Khawaja Asif, and Justice Qazi Faez Isa.

Islamabad [Pakistan], May 5 (ANI): The accountability witch-hunt initiated by Prime Minister Imran Khan was always a farce with a clear motive to remove former premier Nawaz Sharif and his Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
KARACHI: In what appears to be another twist in the tale, the former director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Bashir Memon, has said that Prime Minister Imran Khan did not mention Supreme Court judge Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s name during a meeting with him.
Appearing on Hum News’ talk show called Breaking Point with Malick on Saturday night, Mr Memon said he had met the prime minister for just two to three minutes during which “no particular case was discussed”, dawn.com reported on Sunday.
When the show’s host, Mohammad Malick, asked the former FIA chief whether or not Prime Minister Khan had taken Justice Isa’s name during the meeting, Mr Memon replied in the negative. He, however, remained firm on the names of other government officials who he claimed had pressed him to initiate a case against the Supreme Court judge, said the dawn.com report.

PESHAWAR: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has asked the government to stop political victimisation of opposition leaders and take practical steps for strengthening national economy and controlling inflation and joblessness.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Sunday, party’s provincial president Amir Muqam said that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government had done nothing for public welfare during its tenure, but it only focused its attention on victimisation of opposition parties, particularly PML-N.
Flanked by the party’s provincial spokesman MPA Ikhtiar Wali Khan, provincial vice-president Malik Nadeem and others, he said that former director general of FIA Bashir Memon had disclosed all secrets which was an ample proof of the government’s anti-opposition intentions.
