Plans go in for £150 million rail centre in South Wales

The facility will be connected to the main Brecon to Neath line, with signalling upgrades also planned as part of the project. Plans for the Onllwyn site include a control centre, a research and development facility, maintenance sheds and staff overnight accommodation. The site spans the Powys/Neath Port Talbot border and identical planing applications have been submitted to both councils. A planning statement prepared by Ove Arup and Partners, on behalf of the Welsh Government, says the project will be “a catalyst for the creation of a rail technology hub in Wales”. The first phase of the project – which includes the high tonnage test track and station – could open by 2023, with work to be completed on the latter two phases by 2025.

Llanfair Caereinion caravan park extension set for approval

Fir View Holiday Park at Llangyniew near Llanfair Caereinion PROPOSALS to extend a caravan park near Llanfair Caereinion will go before council planners this week. At a meeting on Thursday, Powys County councillors will look at plans by Sheeham Holdings to add 54 static caravans at Fir View Holiday Park, Llangyniew, turning it into a 228-pitch park The site near the A495 already has 174 static caravans, but that could be extended by almost a third if the plans come to fruition. Llangyniew Council has said it does not support the application and several other people have sent letters objecting to the proposals to Powys Council – but a report to councillors has recommended the plans are approved.
