In March 2021, residents of the road launched a petition to save Dalkeith Steps from anti-social behaviour. Residents called upon BCP Council and Bournemouth West MP Conor Burns to intervene following an increase in anti-social behaviour, which, according to residents, has been happening for years.
A history of issues
Needles, drug paraphernalia and rubbish at a public footpath to Richmond Gardens car park in 2017 Concerns regarding anti-social behaviour and drug paraphernalia at the steps, amongst other things, have been long-standing. In 2017, “dangerous” drug paraphernalia, broken glass and rubbish at the car park footpath put people off from using the busy town centre walkway.
Darren Brooks, also known as Darren Ginbey A VIOLENT robber who threatened victims with syringes and a screw driver has been jailed for 10 years. Darren Philip Brooks, also known as Darren Ginbey, 51, of West Overcliff Drive, Bournemouth, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court to be sentenced on Thursday April 15 after admitting three offences of robbery. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison and was also made the subject of an extended licence period of a further four years. At around 4.05pm on Tuesday December 15 last year the defendant entered McColls in Commercial Road and ordered the lone member of staff working at the till to give him money.

The town centres in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole were buzzing again on Monday after a lockdown that began back in December. With non-essential retail and services like hairdressers back in business, visitors flooded back to the main centres and district high streets. And a surprising number of new retail and hospitality businesses have sprung up. BCP Council has launched a campaign to reassure people that it is safe to shop and enjoy dining in the outside spaces of restaurants and cafes.
