Wellesley news briefs LWVMA announces winners of student video contest The League of Women Voters of Massachusetts recently announced the winners of its Democracy Challenge Student Video Contest.  The winners are: • Second Place: “United is Power” by Maya Baudrand, Stoneleigh Burnham School • Third Place: “Stand Up” by Julia Valanzola, The Academy at Penguin Hall In addition to the individual winners, LWVMA recognizes Wellesley High School with its Catalyst Award for their extraordinary participation 25 video submissions in the contest. Administration releases $50.8 million to help Wisconsin seniors May 10, 2021 7:45 PM Site staff WASHINGTON, D.C. (WKBT) The Biden Administration released $50.8 million to Wisconsin for Older Americans Act programs as part of the American Rescue Plan. The money will focus on programs to support Wisconsin seniors with an emphasis on pandemic relief, including the following: $13.6 million for meals for older adults $8.4 million for Home and Community Based Services $797,738 for evidence-based health promotion and disease prevention $2.6 million to help family caregivers support their loved ones And $181,304 to safeguard the health and welfare of residents the state’s long-term care facilities. “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many challenges for Wisconsin seniors and their families, and exposed the cracks in our long-term care system,” said U.S. Rep. Ron Kind said in announcing the release of the money.

Critical funding announced for Wisconsin’s older adults through the American Rescue Plan WASHINGTON, DC (CBS 58) Rep. Ron Kind announced Monday, May 10, the Biden-Harris Administration’s release of $50,772,152 in funding to Wisconsin for critical Older Americans Act programs as part of the American Rescue Plan he helped pass. “The COVID-19 pandemic has caused many challenges for Wisconsin seniors and their families, and exposed the cracks in our long-term care system,” said Rep. Ron Kind. “This funding from the American Rescue Plan will go a long way towards providing relief and addressing the issues facing older adults, such as vaccine access, nutrition, and family caregiver support. Seniors here in Wisconsin have given so much to our state throughout the years, and we need to continue to ensure they can remain independent and engaged in our communities.”
