WEST MICHIGAN A group of superintendents from West Michigan released their legislative priorities for state and federal legislators amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The priorities come via the West Michigan Talent Triangle, a collection of school leaders throughout Ottawa, Kent and Muskegon counties.
Superintendents called for adequate school funding, a pause on high stakes testing, adjustments to teacher evaluation law, greater expediency for vaccine rollout, in a statement released Wednesday, Feb. 10.
In order to address “tremendous academic, social, emotional and physical challenges” brought on by the pandemic, they say schools will need support from the federal and state levels.

WEST MICHIGAN â School superintendents across West Michigan released on Wednesday their COVID-19 pandemic legislative priorities, which they say are designed to mitigate the academic, social, emotional and physical challenges stemming from the pandemic.
Theyâre calling for adequate funding to schools, along with relief from what they call âburdensomeâ state and federal laws.
âWe know the pandemic will require schools to provide additional services to meet the needs of students, staff and families,â said Kyle Mayer, superintendent of Ottawa Area ISD. âWe require continued financial support from our federal and state governments in the coming years.â
Spring Lake is spinning thanks to man-made Ice Carousel
Paul McMullen, Kyle Beeck and Chad Hutchison made an Ice Carousel on Spring Lake. The giant ice disc stays spinning for 20 minutes once they get it going. Author: Brent Ashcroft Updated: 6:47 PM EST February 1, 2021
SPRING LAKE, Mich. What are some of the usual winter activities people do when Michigan lakes freeze over?
Ice skating, ice fishing and maybe skiing all immediately come to mind.
Three dads from Spring Lake and Grand Haven decided they wanted to create a winter experience that was different, and maybe a little dizzying, too. Recently, my daughter Olivia was on YouTube and saw an Ice Carousel that was made in Finland, said Paul McMullen, who s the braintrust behind the spinning ice disc. She came to me and asked, Dad, can you make one of these?
