MUSKEGON COUNTY, MI – Amy Lee Black, one of Michigan’s 10 female “juvenile lifers,” has asked a judge to reduce her life sentence in what has been called a despicable, horrific killing.
Black, 46, and her boyfriend, Jeffery Abrahamson, 50, were convicted of first-degree murder in the Dec. 7, 1990, killing of Dave VanBogelen, 34.
His body was left on a two-track road after he was bludgeoned and repeatedly stabbed.

MUSKEGON, Mich The fate of convicted killer Amy Black rests in the hands of a Muskegon County judge, who heard closing statements Wednesday in a hearing that will determine if Black dies in prison or is eventually released for a murder she committed at the age of 16. She does shed tears; tears of recognition for what she has done to another family,’’ defense attorney Kimberly Stout told the judge Wednesday in asking for a term of years, rather than life in prison.

MUSKEGON, Mich. A hearing is underway to determine if Amy Black, who was 16 when she participated in a Muskegon County murder, should be released from prison after serving more than three decades for the 1990 crime.
“I think she is salvageable and should have a shot at returning to the community,’’ testified Dr. Timothy Wynkoop, a psychologist for the defense who interviewed Black on several occasions.
