BUCHAREST (Romania), April 20 (SeeNews) - The International Finance Corporation (IFC) said on Tuesday that it is providing a 72 million euro ($86.8 million) loan to Palas Campus, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Romanian real estate developer Iulius Holding, to build a green technology complex in the northeastern city of Iasi.
The new 60,000 sq m complex will help Romania attract and retain foreign investors and businesses by providing them with modern green office space, the IFC, a member of World Bank Group, said in a press release.
Amazon is set to open three new offices in Romania over the next three years, two this year and another in 2023, creating more than 500 jobs, and bringing the number of staff employed in the country to over 3,000.
The first office to open, in the second quarter of this year, will be in the western Romanian city of Timișoara, which will focus on Amazon devices, including Ring home security devices and services, while another office will open in the northeastern city of in Iași, based on the firm’s existing campus, which will focus on retail business support, which ensures Amazon’s selection and discoverability is optimised for customers, whilst supporting selling partners and category teams.

The company is preparing to add another 500 permanent roles available in its offices in the country by the end of the year and intends to open a new branch in Timisoara and two more in Iasi. The office in Timisoara, scheduled to open in Q2, 2021, will focus on the Amazon Devices line, which will also include the Ring security devices, and will be the place where innovative products and services will be developed and launched.
