AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has been made aware of unlicensed and unregulated marijuana dispensaries operating under the Tribe’s jurisdiction, said a press release from the Tribe.
Pursuant to Tribal Council Resolution 2021-71, these operations have been issued Cease and Desist Orders until an Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance has been enacted and tribal licenses have been issued, the Tribe said.
In accordance with the tribal referendum approved by membership on Dec. 14, 2019, the Tribe is currently consulting with tribal members on the development of an Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance. The first of three consultation sessions on the regulation’s development was conducted on April 22.

AKWESASNE As the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe works towards the development and adoption of an Adult Use Marijuana Ordinance in consultation with tribal members, the Tribe is reminding individuals that commercial cultivation, processing, and sale of pot remains illegal under tribal jurisdiction.
In accordance with the tribal referendum approved by membership on Dec. 14, 2019; the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is taking steps to legalize recreational adult use marijuana . A draft ordinance has been developed and will be presented to tribal members at public meetings for their input and feedback.
Consultation meetings will be held with tribal members on April 29, and May 6 at 5 p.m. A link to participate in the virtual meetings is available on the Tribal Members Portal located on the Tribe’s website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.

AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe says draft regulations have been developed for governing the cultivation of hemp under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. The draft regulations are now available for a 30-day period for tribal members to submit written comments.
In December 2016, tribal voters were posed with the referendum question: “Should the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe explore options to legalize, license and regulate the cultivation, production and distribution of Industrial Hemp? Sixty-six percentof tribal voters approved the Tribe’s exploration into hemp production; with 353 “Yes” votes, 180 “No” votes, and 4 spoiled ballots.
