Ken Eddlemen sells vintage and antique toys, and his toy collections make for a good history lesson.
One of the sets of toys he has is his GI Joe doll collection made by Hasbro. He has GI Joes with the traditional green army suit and helmets; a few with a bearded GI Joe; and, he has GI Joes in German or Japanese outfits and gear. And, he has the GI Joe action figure as an adventurer.
“GI Joe was really the early action figures,” Eddleman said, said of the 12-inch soldier dolls that became popular staring in the mid-1960s. “After the Vietnam War was over, the toy company decided to make the GI Joe an adventurer. His outfits and his tools were changed to an outdoorsman.”
