Española School District Board members Monday night unanimously approved a $34 million budget for Fiscal Year 2021-22. There was no discussion outside of a presentation by District Finance Director Richard Halford.
The major factor in the Districtâs budget is always the State Equalization Guarantee, or the rate paid per student. The good news was that the rate went from $4,531 last school year to $4,770 for the upcoming year, a raise of 5.27 percent.
However, enrollment in the District slid 4.8 percent, much larger than the overall state decrease of 1.2 percent. The loss of 277 students resulted in a District loss of income of $1.32 million.
