(Photo by Angela Denning/KFSK) COVID show notes for Friday, May 14, 2021 – Incident commander Karl Hagerman  – COVID situation in Petersburg right now, still at low risk, four active cases, all travel related, people who have left Petersburg, returned here and since tested positive. They were symptomatic and were tested at the airport and at Petersburg Medical Center’s respiratory clinic. They have been directed to isolate and he believes the risk to festival-goers is low. Petersburg still has a face covering mandate in place. He mentioned the Centers for Disease Control’s latest guidance on fully vaccinated people and masking.

School cafeteria employee saves co-worker s life with Heimlich maneuver

Updated: 5:50 AM CDT May 13, 2021 Claire Metz Reporter A cafeteria worker at a Florida middle school used the Heimlich maneuver to save a co-worker who was choking on food. Kaneshia Stokes is a humble hero.Stokes knew her co-worker at Ormond Beach Middle School was in trouble a few weeks ago when she glanced up from washing dishes and saw her on her knees grabbing her chest.That s when Stokes physically picked the woman up and performed the Heimlich.The school, the district and a number of organizations recently celebrated Ms. Stokes with a trophy, a basket of goodies, and a check for $2,000. I sometimes feel like I m put on Earth to help others. Regardless of what it is. I ve been feeling like that since I was younger, Stokes said. Chelsea School Update – Chelsea Record

District Updates Last week was a week of celebration and appreciation. On Friday, May 7, 2021, it was School Lunch Hero Day. The CPS thanked its hard working, dedicated, amazing food service staff with flowers, cake, and a card full of thanks. These women have produced and served 1,198,500 meals since March of 2020. They are incredible and should be celebrated regularly. •May 3-7 was Teacher Appreciation Week. The District and Schools found many ways to thank our amazing teachers, paras, and support staff.  In celebration of Teacher’s Appreciation week, CPS’s friends at the Chelsea Kiwanis Club, in coordination with the Parent Liaisons & Buildings and Grounds, were very kind in sending Dunkin Donuts Coffee and Donuts to all the teachers at each of the nine schools. THANK YOU to Renee Griffin and her awesome staff at the Chelsea Dunkin Donuts on Everett Ave. for all of their help coordinating this.  The Central Office Team in addition sent teachers a sweet surprise to wrap

School Lunch Hero Day at Galvan Elementary

Students and staff at Galvan Elementary took time to show their appreciation for cafeteria workers. Author: KIII Staff Updated: 6:40 PM CDT May 7, 2021 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas Students all over the Corpus Christi Independent School District honored the men and women that serve them lunch day in an day out. We checked with the students and staff at Galvan Elementary where the kids took time to show their appreciation for the cafeteria workers.  they wrote thank you notes with drawings of those who are the unsung heroes of the school system. Those we spoke with said they really appreciated the thoughtfulness. I really feel very, very good about it with all of the kids, staff member Lisa Rosalas said. They showed that they really care for us.
