The Durham District School Board says it's considering renaming a public school named after former governor general Julie Payette after a blistering report found she presided over a toxic work environment.
In an email interview, Dobson was inspired to put her name forward as the new principal due to the “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity this new school presents and the endless possibilities that lie ahead for Legacy Park. I feel very privileged to be a part of it.” Dobson is the current principal of Haig School and has been an administrator in Southeast Cornerstone for 17 years. She received her Masters in Educational Administration in 2017 and was the recipient of Canada’s Outstanding Principal award in 2014. “The support from Haig School means more than words can say, not only during this time, but throughout my 20 years at Haig. I have been incredibly lucky to be part of such an amazing staff and school community,” she said.
“We left it up to the teachers to decide if they had time in their schedules, for the students in their classes to make the Christmas cards.” In total there were 85 cards made for seniors delivered to the Weyburn Special Care Home for distribution, and 59 cards for veterans delivered to the Weyburn Legion. “Hopefully these cards put a smile their faces, just for a moment. So that they are being thought of and the community cares for them. The students at QE have very big hearts,” said Jennifer. Josephine Cugnet, her brother Thomas and cousin Isabelle made the deliveries to the Weyburn Special Care Home and Weyburn Legion. “It was a lot of fun. We got to be Santa and his elves,” said Josephine.

A local school is fundraising to build its first-ever playground.
After celebrating their 50
th anniversary at the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, students at Waverly Public School in Oshawa were tasked with deciding what they wanted in their school yard.
Amanda Chapman, the school’s principal, says many of the students voted for pavement type games, a ball area, soccer posts in each age division, a playground, and an obstacle type course.
