ISD 318 plans for graduation

School board recognizes GRHS girls’ basketball team The ISD 318 School Board welcomed the Grand Rapids High School (GRHS) girls’ basketball team to its regular meeting Tuesday, April 6 to recognize the student athletes for making it to the state-level competition this spring and winning the section 3A championship. “Just a remarkable group of student athletes that represent 318 with excellence and pride on the court, in the classroom, and in our community. So very proud of these young ladies and our coaches,” GRHS Activities Director Anne Campbell commented.  Campbell presented Head Coach Kris Hamling with their trophy for making it to State at the meeting. The team is primarily made up of ninth and tenth grade students, with one senior on the team, Captain Jenny Bowman.

Linda Prechtl receives the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching from President Stephen Kolison. Linda (Ferry) Prechtl, an adjunct faculty member in the State University of New York at Fredonia College of Education, was recently recognized by President Stephen Kolison Jr., as the recipient of the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Adjunct Teaching. Since 2010, Mrs. Prechtl has been an adjunct lecturer in Pre-K to Grade 6 Literacy program at Fredonia. In this role, she implements curriculum using academic learning strategies and educational pedagogy, utilizing lectures, discussions, group work and demonstrations in literacy methods. She is also a teaching methods instructor in the highly regarded Helen R. Johnson Fredonia-Hamburg Internship Program for SUNY Fredonia education majors.

Scio, Belfast teachers awarded Farm to School State Farm grants

Scio, Belfast teachers awarded Farm to School State Farm grants The Wellsville Daily Reporter BELMONT  Teachers in New York were asked to submit their innovative teaching ideas the week of Jan. 11 for an opportunity to win State Farm  Teacher Assist grants. Two hundred submissions were accepted and reviewed. In the end, State Farm recognized and awarded 40 New York teachers with a $2,500 grant to implement or support their classroom projects. Two of these projects in Allegany County were awarded funding. ­Teachers Kyle Canfield, High School Science Teacher at Scio CSD, and Josh Hazelton, Science and Technology Teacher at Belfast CSD, will use their awards to promote Farm to School programs in their respective districts.
