Petersburg has one of the 10 worst case rates per 100,000 residents in Virginia. So far, the city has had 3,914 confirmed cases, 165 hospitalizations and 86 deaths to the coronavirus though this week has shown a record-low in case rates statewide.

PETERSBURG, Va. (WWBT) - The Crater Health District is planning ahead as Pfizer moves forward with seeking FDA approval for vaccinating children against COVID-19.
A survey was pushed out recently seeking interest in student vaccinations.
On Wednesday, the Petersburg School Board approved a plan to bring students back into the classroom five days per week this fall. Now, the school system is encouraging families to take the survey to find out how many of them would like to get their children vaccinated.

RICHMOND, Va. As Virginia gets closer to herd immunity, signing up for the COVID-19 vaccine in Richmond and Henrico just got easier. We re really excited about this change, Amy Popovich, a nurse manager with the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts said. This means that the vaccine is accessible for anyone over the age of 16.
Popovich said that the two health districts have gotten rid of pre-registration for vaccination clinics, something that is possible after everyone on their pre-registration list is contacted at least once.

RICHMOND, Va. Virginia is one of several states that restarted use of the one-shot Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine Saturday after receiving the green light from federal health officials.
Arizona, New York, Virginia, Missouri, Michigan and Tennessee were among the other states ordering or recommending a resumption of the vaccine.
Those moves came swiftly after U.S. health officials said Friday evening they were lifting an 11-day pause on vaccinations using the J&J vaccine. During the pause, scientific advisers to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention decided the vaccineâs benefits outweigh a rare risk of blood clots.
