WILKES-BARRE Organizers of #570 Day say the event aims to spread positivity, local pride and celebrate the people and places within the 570 area code.
And today, Friday, May 7, is that day #570Day.
“Northeast Pennsylvania packs a whole lot into one corner of the state,” said Christine Mackin Meluskey, President of the Wilkes-Barre Rotary Club, one of the organizing groups. “From hiking trails and breathtaking vistas, to ski slopes and water parks, to craft breweries and eateries dishing out local flavor and the list goes on and on.”

Newswatch 16 has an update on a cool campaign we first told you about last month.
It s a new online initiative that s all about celebrating the amazing shops, restaurants, attractions, and even people who make our area so special.
It’s called #570Day, chosen to play out on 5/7 or May 7.
Newswatch 16’s Ryan Leckey spotlighted how you can get involved in this social media campaign.
Ryan was joined by some of the campaign organizers and volunteers in Forty Fort the day before the big launch.
REGIONAL â Dr. Nicholas Moss, Alameda County health officer, told participants at a Tri-Valley Chamber of Commerce webinar on April 23 that people who do not get vaccinated against COVID viruses will get the virus.
The vaccines are very safe, said Dr. Moss. They do their work by leaving material in the body that fades away from the vaccineâs initial stage.
âThe vaccine goes away, but the body looks for COVID,â he said.
Moss encouraged listeners to urge their friends and family to get vaccinated as well. He further stated that, âPlenty of younger adults wind up in the hospital, but the older ones die more likely.â
