Mapping Marblehead: From Founding to Freedom

The Indispensables with Patrick K O Donnell at Marblehead Museum

A fascinating, and little-known history of Headers who served with Gen. John Glover Courtesy of Marblehead Museum The Marblehead Museum is excited to host (virtually) best-selling author, Patrick K. O’Donnell as he delves into the history of the ‘Headers who served with General John Glover in his new book “The Indispensables, The Diverse Soldier-Mariners Who Shaped the Country, Formed the Navy, and Rowed Washington Across the Delaware.” The event will be held Thursday, May 27 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Local history with a national lens embodies much of Marblehead’s past. While the debate is still ongoing regarding the birthplace of the American Navy, the role that Marbleheaders played during the American Revolution has never been questioned.

DID YOU KNOW: Who is the Widger in Marblehead s Widger Road

DID YOU KNOW: Who is the Widger in Marblehead s Widger Road A brief history of the Widger Family Mark Hurwitz For generations, Marblehead residents have sought out healthcare on Widger Road. First at the Mary Alley Hospital then the North Shore Physicians Group Medical Building. If you are like me, I have always been curious about how a street got its name. Growing up in a historic town such as Marblehead, many of our streets are named for either Founding Fathers such as George Washington, or maybe an 18th century French Military Officer- General Marquis De Lafayette. Washington and Lafayette of course are household names for those familiar with the American Revolution, but what about the other streets in Marblehead, what interesting and/or exciting lives did certain individuals lead to have a street named after them.
