Coimbatore: The Variety Hall Road police have registered a case against 12 people for trespassing into a polling station at Coimbatore South constituency with cash and paraphernalia bearing BJP symbols.
A flying squad in Thondamuthur assembly constituency had received a tip-off about BJP cadres carrying cash for distribution at the polling station on Maranna Gowder High School campus on Sullivan Street on Friday. The squad seized six cars carrying unaccounted cash worth Rs 46,070, 10 gift vouches worth Rs 1,000, two gift vouchers worth Rs 2,000, stickers, towels, caps, flags, voters list, 17 cheque books, 11 debit cards and credit cards and two bank passbooks.
Police registered a case under Section 447 (punishment for criminal trespass), 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), and 171 E (punishment for bribery) of the Indian penal code.

COIMBATORE: Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption sleuths arrested two special sub-inspectors (SSIs) attached to the Variety Hall Road police station here on Tuesday for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,700 from a man.
A DVAC official said the sub-inspectors, Irulappan, 57, and M Ganeshan, 53, demanded money from Sridhar, a Kovaipudur resident, to release his bike. “Irulappan seized the bike from Sridhar for drunken driving on February 27. Then he demanded Rs 6,000 for releasing the bike without registering a case. When Sridhar said he was not in position to arrange the money, Irulappan asked him to give Rs 3,000. But Sridhar again expressed his inability to give Rs 3,000,” the official said.

COIMBATORE: Two special sub-inspectors of police attached to the Variety Hall Road police station in Coimbatore were arrested by DVAC sleuths while accepting a bribe of Rs 1,700 from a man for releasing his motorcycle after he was caught for traffic rule violation.
The arrested SSIs were identified as Irulappan,57, and Ganeshan, 53.
Sridhar of Kovaipudur was intercepted by SSI Irulappan in the Variety Hall road police station limits on February 27. The SSI seized the motorcycle from Sridhar for drunken driving.
Irulappan demanded Rs 6,000 for not registering a case and to release the motorcycle.
Sridhar replied that he was not in position to arrange Rs 6,000. Later, the SSI demanded Rs 3,000 to release the vehicle. But Sridhar was not able to pay that amount too.
