COIMBATORE: Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (TPDK) cadres on Thursday staged a protest with empty syringes, condemning the Union government for poor allocation of vaccines to Tamil Nadu.
The cadres, holding empty syringes, gathered in front of the head post office on Variety Hall Road and raised slogans against the government.
TPDK general secretary Ku Ramakrishnan said that while health officials warned about the third Covid wave, the Union government provided only 302 vaccines for 1,000 people in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: In view of the recent burglaries at three Tasmac outlets, the city police have instructed Tasmac authorities to ramp up security and insta.
Coimbatore: Two people were arrested on Monday evening for stealing 453 liquor bottles from a Tasmac outlet on Variety Hall Road on Sunday night.
Police identified the accused as A Sathishkumar, 26, of CMC Colony, and G Then alias Dheena, 19, of Vellalore.
An investigation officer said the duo had broken into the Tasmac outlet on Variety Hall Road on Sunday night and made away with 430 bottles of brandy and whisky, and 23 beer bottles worth around Rs 90,000 in an auto. “They sold the liquor bottles to the public.”
Based on a complaint from the Tasmac outlet authorities, the Variety Hall Road (crime) police registered a case and arrested the two. They also seized Rs 18,000 from them.
Coimbatore: A 27-year-old guest worker was arrested on Tuesday for burglary attempt at a nationalised bank on Variety Hall Road here on May 11.
The Variety Hall Road police said they had nabbed B Amiys Biswas, a native of Ghurni Post at Nadia in West Bengal, based on a compliant that was lodged by 27-year-old R Sreekanth Ramesh, manager (incharge) of Town Hall branch of the State Bank of India, recently.
In his compliant, Ramesh said when he reported for duty on May 11 along with deputy manager Kanjana Rajan, cashier Srividhya and staffer Selvaraj the window of the bank on Karuppanna Gounder Street was found broken open with the files on the tables scattered around. He said there was an attempt to break open the locker in which valid documents were kept. “The burglar was not able to steal anything and damaged the locker.”
