Premium Content Do you happen to know who the woman in this photo is? Margaret Fava, a resident from Bacchus Marsh, 50km north west of Melbourne, bought the photo from an op shop in her hometown in December. The image is 45cm (18 inches) wide by 53cm (21 inches) in height. I saw it at the Bacchus Marsh Salvos op shop, and I said to the manager: I have to buy it , she said. She s just beautiful. At the shop they had no idea, it could have come locally, from Melbourne or from another Salvos store. I guess the image is from the 1950s or maybe a bit earlier.

Subscriber only When he was a boy, Stephen Mills grandfather would always have a magical mystery stew on the boil. He cooked on wood-fired ovens, pots bubbling away, and had home-killed lamb, pork and chickens hanging in his chiller. Curiosity soon took over for the aspiring young chef. Mr Mills started his culinary career the old-school way â slogging it out washing dishes at fancy resorts on weekends and cooking up a storm in his Home Economics classes at school. When he was 16, he took up an apprenticeship in the Blue Mountains, and went on to work at various restaurants, hotels, clubs and resorts.

Subscriber only Three beaches have been closed on Wednesday afternoon along the Far North Coast due to rough conditions. The beach closure was announced not long after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a hazardous surf warning for the Byron Coast. On Wednesday January 20, 2021, Surf lifesaving Far North Coast spokesman Sam Clutterbuck said that Shelley Beach, Lighthouse Beach at Ballina and Crabbes Creek have all been closed. Shelley, Crabbes Creek and Lighthouse beaches are closed as the conditions are pretty terrible and not at good for swimming, Mr Clutterbuck said. We also have had some trees and logs washed in from along river and along to the beach.
