Subscriber only The Ballina Farmers Market could soon expand from 30 to 60 stalls, if Ballina Shire Council approves the move. Councillors will debate this week a proposal for a larger scale farmers market, and other community events where possible, at Commemoration Park. The Ballina Farmers Market has been operating at Commemoration Park since 2017, with a maximum capacity of 30 stalls. Ballina Shire Council has received a request from the manager of the Ballina Farmers Market, Cornelia Burless, to facilitate the expansion of the market to 60 stalls. The management of the farmers market is due to be renewed through an expression of interest process in July 2021, in accordance with the terms of Council s Markets Policy.

Subscriber only Vehicle access on part of Norton Street and Fripp Lane, between Bentinck and Fox Streets in Ballina, will be closed and restricted to local residents for several days this month. Ballina Shire Council confirmed the temporary closure was required for filming on April 22, 23, 26 and 27. Detours will be available via Ross Street. This temporary closure was approved by the Local Traffic Committee under the conditions of Traffic Control Plans and in accordance with the NSW Filming Protocol 2009. The protocol makes it easier for filmmakers to work on locations around the state by giving all councils one set of rules for processing approvals.

A new green waste processing facility has been proposed for West Ballina.
A new development application has been launched with Ballina Shire Council by Teven Park Pty Limited for a mulch storage area at Teven Road in West Ballina.
The land contains a registered site area of 4.28 hectares and is currently vacant.
The project will involve the storage of approximately 35,000 tonnes of mulch per year.
Documents received by council explained that mulch will be received from Lismore and Ballina waste transfer stations, and will be free of contaminants.
The mulch will be transported to an adjoining site for processing by Go Grow, a company established nearby that supplies potting mix and landscape supplies.

Ballina Shire Council received an application to turn the former church at 36 Rous Mill Road into an art gallery and pottery studio. The project included the use of the existing building as exhibition space, adding a deck, and the erection a building to be used for office and storage, an outdoor kitchen, bathroom and shared toilet amenities. The project also included new buildings for glazing and hand building, an undercover kiln, a pottery studio, plus and upgrading of the existing car access and provision of six on-site carparking spaces plus ancillary infrastructure.
