Tabatha McKay (Courtesy of UScellular) Cell carrier names regional manager Contributed • February 1, 2021 UScellular has named Tabatha McKay as area vice president/general manager of retail sales and operations for its New England Region.  PORTLAND, Maine UScellular has named Tabatha McKay as area vice president/general manager of retail sales and operations for its New England Region.  This new role will lead sales and operations of both corporate owned and agent retail locations in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.  McKay joined the company in 2002 as a retail wireless consultant and has held roles of increasing responsibility, including learning and development instructor, regional training manager, regional talent acquisition manager, associate relations manager, and most recently human resource director of business partners and employee relations supporting the corporate-owned channel. 

Maine colleges will expand COVID-19 testing for spring semester

Read Article Maine colleges, including the state’s public university system, are expanding COVID-19 testing this spring as part of an effort to bring students back to campuses safely amid surging case numbers. The University of Maine System announced a new testing partnership with testing provider Shield T3 on Friday that will include a mobile testing laboratory in Orono where results will be processed on-site, eliminating the need to ship test samples out of state. All staff and students who work, live and study in person on the system’s seven campuses will be required to participate in the weekly testing this spring.

STEM is no longer a stereotype, but Maine s workforce struggles to align with business needs

Scientists in lab coats and Silicon Valley coders that’s what usually comes to mind when thinking about science, technology, engineering and mathematics, or STEM. But STEM is more than the stereotype. It includes diverse disciplines feeding ever-changing industries, and Maine is fertile ground for STEM development, says Walter Rawle, chairman of the Maine chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He cites innovations in traditional industries like forestry, agriculture and fishing; and new developments in fields as disparate as bioscience, health care, artificial intelligence, machine learning, autonomous vehicles, military applications and a concept in the works to develop a Maine spaceport complex.
