Ag Academy: Passion to Career to be held in June

This summer, Minnesota 4-H and FFA will co-host a series of day camps for Minnesota youth.
Ag Academy: Passion to Career is for fifth to eighth graders and will be held at the University of Minnesota Crookston campus on June 22, 23, and 24.
The UMN Crookston campus resides in region one (FFA)/northwestern counties of Minnesota (4-H).
Each day camp will have different activities and topics connected to careers in ag.
Youth are welcome to attend one, two or all three days.

He liked that the business was focused on being a plant nursery, leaving landscaping to customers and professional installers.
“(Landscaping is) not what I am passionate about,” Volz said. “Neal really focused on having variety. Lots and lots of different varieties and different plants. I like that.”

Between 2000 and 2020, Volz spent about 18 months away from Sheyenne Gardens checking out other nurseries in Minnesota as possible business opportunities.
“I was planning on taking Neal’s business model of lots of variety along with me. I thought it was a smart business model for a bigger community,” he said.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The University of Alaska Fairbanks has new leadership atop the athletic department, as Chancellor Dan White has appointed Brock Anundson to serve as the school’s next athletic director.
“Our goal was to find an athletics director for the future of the Nanooks,” said Chancellor White. “We wanted somebody who understood the Fairbanks community, understood UAF and had a long-term vision for UAF moving forward.”
Anundson currently serves as the assistant director of athletics for internal operations and events at Black Hills State University in South Dakota, where he is responsible for overseeing administrative operations and multiple athletic facilities on the campus. “Our graduates can go anywhere, we have students that come from other areas of the country, those specific to our region, and we have established ourselves as having a strong agriculture program, agronomy programs broadly,” said University of Minnesota Crookston Agronomy Lecturer, Rob Proulx, Ph.D.
But it isn’t just Crookston’s agronomy graduates that have become pretty well embedded in a lot of the different companies in this region, particularly American Crystal Sugar. Proulx said the variety of degrees and, in this case, ag, touches everything.
“One concrete example is American Crystal Sugar Company, and of their Agriculturist staff, something like one-third of those individuals have come through the UMN Crookston’s Agronomy program,” Proulx explained.
