Nine colleges across the United States are piloting a technology-focused career training initiative that aims to prepare 500,000 learners for jobs of the future by 2030. The Verizon Reskilling Program is being led by workforce and education nonprofit JFF, in collaboration with Generation USA, a nonprofit that provides free career training, placement and support, with funding from Verizon. The effort will target people from underrepresented populations and those who do not have a four-year degree.
The colleges will tap into Generation USA s training curricula to offer free programs in web development, IT support, cloud computing and more all focused on the skills students need for in-demand technology careers. The programs track record boasts an 80 percent completion rate and 75 percent employment rate for graduates, according to a news announcement.

Gov. Jim Justice has appointed Kenneth Ballard, of Charleston, WV, to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit, which serves Kanawha County. Ballard is set to fill the seat vacated by the resignation of the Honorable Tod J. Kaufman.
Ballard has practiced law in West Virginia for 20 years. Much of his career work has taken place in the Eleventh Family Court Circuit where he has served as the Chief Family Court Judge since 2010. He has also served the public as a Juvenile Drug Court Judge.
Kenneth graduated in 2001 from the University of the District of Columbia, David A. Clarke School of Law and in 1997 from Marshall University.

Jasmine Holloway knows it sounds odd. But March 2021, when she and the rest of America were enduring the 13th month of a brutal pandemic, may have been the best month of her life.
When the pandemic hit, Holloway was working at a day care center, taking night classes at the University of the District of Columbia, and raising her three kids.
Initially, the lockdown was a blessing: Suddenly her kids ages 14, 5, and 3 were at home where she could watch them more easily. Her 14-year-old, who had been arrested in a particularly rough period shortly before lockdown, found the time especially beneficial. “All the bad influences he was doing before, it stopped because the world stopped,” Jasmine recalls.
