UFO Detectors, Real Lightsabers, Shrinking Brains and More Mysterious News Briefly — April 15, 2021

Mysterious News Briefly April 15, 2021 New Jersey State Park Police were called to Saw Dust Pile Road in Wharton State Forest after a hiker found something labeled “UFO Detector Site” that the bomb squad “disarmed” by unplugging the headphone wire from the block of wood and the soup can it was plugged into. Sad, hungry ETs were seen in the woods holding spoons and soup bowls. Researchers using DNA from psychics in an attempt to find a gene that might cause some families to have generations of psychics were unable to positively identify one, but they uncovered a non-protein-coding region adjacent to the TNRC18 gene on chromosome 7 that was present in most non-psychics but absent in all psychic cases. Psychics already knew this, as did their mothers, grandmothers, aunts …

For students at the University of California Santa Barbara, they watched cows from space. In a recent paper published in  Biological Conservation, a team of students, along with ecologist Doug McCauley, scrutinised satellite images of cattle herds around Point Reyes National Seashore, USA, to track how wildlife and livestock interact. Their rigorous cow spotting showed that wild elk had learned to avoid cattle in the area, choosing different places to forage in order to coexist.

Super-alloy Produces Defect-Free 3D Printed Parts

Adobe Stock A new class of metals is compatible with 3D printing processes for use in high-performance applications for space, energy, and nuclear industries. Researchers have discovered a new class of super-alloys that solves a common problem with metal 3D-printed parts for high-performance applications the tendency to crack and have deformations that render them unusable. Tresa Pollock, a professor of materials and associate dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California Santa Barbara, led a team that discovered a new class of nickel-based 3D printable super-alloys that are high-strength, defect-resistant, and can maintain their material integrity at temperatures up to 90 percent of their melting point. The last characteristic is in contrast to most alloys, which fall apart at 50 percent of their melting temperatures, researchers said.
