Plans for the development of a new supermarket on Warwick Road in Carlisle have taken a step forward, after a narrow vote in favour of the project. Carlisle City Council s development control committee yesterday gave approval to outline plans for the creation of a new Lidl supermarket on land off Warwick Road, following a narrow vote of six councillors in favour, and four against the plans. As planning permission was only applied for in outline terms, a further, more detailed proposal will need to be submitted before construction can start. Development control committee members spoke on Friday of their hesitation to approve plans before being given significant assurance it would not increase the risk of Warwick Road suffering further flooding.
