One of the 13 Dragons players who was busted at an illegal house party amid Sydney s lockdown has admitted the group never thought they d get caught.
Josh Maguire, 31, attended the now-infamous barbecue at prop Paul Vaughan s Shellharbour home, south of Sydney, on July 3.
Vaughan was sacked while the dozen other players were given one match suspensions.
Maguire, who joined St George Illawarra this season after previously starring for the Cowboys and Broncos, fronted the media and said he and his fellow teammates never thought the gathering would escalate to the magnitude it has .

Paul Vaughan hosted 12 of his Dragons teammates at his Shellharbour home south of Sydney on July 3 amid the city s lockdown.
Vaughan has been sacked while all players but Zac Lomax and Daniel Alvaro have signed a document confirming nobody else outside the NRL bubble was at the Covid-breaching barbecue.
While the rest of the Dragons squad who signed the document will fly to Queensland on Wednesday, Lomax and Alvaro won t be allowed into the Sunshine State until Sunday - two weeks after the illegal gathering.
