A Discovery of Witches

This gothic supernatural drama, adapted from Deborah Harkness’s bestselling All Souls books, returns for a second season. Diana (Teresa Palmer), a reluctant witch, is still trying to come to terms with her powers, with the help of Matthew (Matthew Goode), a vampire; they have travelled back in time secretly to make their home in Elizabethan London. The pair are on the hunt for the Book of Life, but soon Matthew’s boss catches up with them and tries to convince him to go back to his job: spying for the Queen.

The end-of-the-pier café is packed, nobody’s wearing masks and the opening guest of a new series, Jack Dee, informs Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty that he’s been busy travelling and touring, so this was obviously filmed a lifetime ago. Dee revisits his days as a chef at the Ritz (he lied his way into the short-lived job) and shares memories of family camping holidays in France as a child, with the hosts tracking down the campsite his family stayed at and recreating the effect of a perfect rotisserie chicken, but in a domestic oven. All that and Jamie’s pot roast pork and Jimmy’s samosas.

The 59-year-old is set to appear on Channel 4 s cooking show Jamie and Jimmy’s Friday Night Feast, where the comedian will join stars Jamie Oliver and Jimmy Doherty to chat and make food. Londoner Dee is firm favourite with viewers, known for his dry sense of self-deprecating humour, as well as his punchy one-liners, which saw him originally host the BBC s Live at the Apollo series. In recent years he has also become increasingly frustrated with politics, and particularly Left-leaning comedians who continually take aim at Brexit.
