We’ve dubbed it “Midseason Week” here on InsideLacrosse.com.
And, though that in some ways is silly given the unique nature of 2021, it’s shed light on just how quickly it’s coming to an end (and how many good All-American-caliber players there are).
If you look at this post giving a status update on all of the conferences, you’ll see that things are being decided right in front of our eyes. The Patriot League, which only has four teams going to its postseason, spread across two divisions, could largely be decided after Saturday.
The ACC is unique in that it doesn’t have an automatic qualifier, but with the strength of each team and the competition they face, they’re most likely all going to land in the NCAA Tournament. And, they’ve proven to be some of the most exciting games all season.

The Best ACC of all time?
The pandemic has created a scenario in which the rich got a whole lot richer. The ACC is loaded in 2021, with all five teams in the Top 10 and four of the five in the Top 5 to start the season.
Transfers made the teams that were already the best in the country even better, no moreso than Duke.
Duke has the superteam of all superteams. The Blue Devils welcomed the top player in college lacrosse, Michael Sowers, to use his final year of eligibility after a Tewaaraton-like start to 2020 at Princeton. Sowers is clearly a game-changer to an already loaded offense, but also consider how Saint Joe’s goalie Mike Adler, Holy Cross face-off specialist Dan O Connell and Sowers’ Princeton linemate Philip Robertson improve the team.

The Orange, who were ranked No. 2 in the preseason and were undefeated in 2020, will try to prove that their 18-11 loss to Army last weekend was an aberration more than the norm. As will be the case most of this season, Syracuse will have the chance to rocket up the rankings given the strength and high rankings of its ACC foes.
A silver lining of the various schedule format changes in 2021 is that each ACC team will play two of their conference opponents twice. Syracuse, for example, has two games against both Virginia and Notre Dame. The upshot of the expanded conference matchups is a lot of great lacrosse.
