Cumbrian groups to celebrate International Womenâs Day
Saj Ghafoor, of Multicultural Cumbria
International womenâs groups from north and south Cumbria are joining forces to put together an online programme of activities for International Womenâs Day.
All local women are encouraged to join the celebrations by signing up to one or more zoom events on March 8.
Events include:
Thai cookery demonstration;
Open mic style âLadies night inâ featuring local poets and artists;
The first screening of a new short film to celebrate the contribution of women from around the world living in the county.
The partners hosting the event include Multicultural Cumbria, Furness Multicultural Community Forum and Carlisle One World Centre.
A Furness-based women’s group is teaming up with a Carlisle group for a monthly chat. Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum and Youth Club’s Women’s Group are scheduled to hold a meeting today for the first time this year. Those who are joining the meeting are urged to ‘make a cuppa’ and can then chat among each other from 11am-12.30pm. The social meeting will be held jointly with the Carlisle-based women’s group Multicultural Cumbria and Carlisle One World. To receive a link to join the virtual meeting, search for ‘Furness Multi-Cultural Community Forum & Youth Club’ on Facebook and send a private message.
