COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Max Domi scored 4:39 into overtime to lift the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Saturday night in the season finale for both teams.
Matiss Kivlenieks had 33 saves for the Blue Jackets, who despite the feel-good win to end the season couldn’t avoid finishing in the Central Division cellar. Columbus needed a win in regulation to finish ahead of the Red Wings.
“Obviously, not the season we wanted or hoped (for),” Columbus forward Cam Atkinson said. “Definitely nice to get the last one in front of our fans.”
Eric Robinson had a goal and an assist, Cam Atkinson got his 15th goal of the season for the Blue Jackets, Oliver Bjorkstrand got his team-leading 18th and Jack Roslovic also scored for the Blue Jackets, who won for just the third time in the last 15 games.

General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen said in a statement Sunday that parting ways with the winningest coach in franchise history was a mutual decision.
The 62-year-old Tortorella, a former UMaine player, was in the last year of his contract, and the separation wasn’t a surprise after a tumultuous season that saw the Blue Jackets plunge to last place in their division amid the coach’s admitted failure to influence the team culture.

Max Domi scored with 20 seconds remaining in overtime and the Columbus Blue Jackets won their season finale over the visiting Detroit Red Wings 5-4 on Saturday.
The two teams at the bottom of the Central Division wound up tied in points, though Detroit (19-27-10, 48 points) technically finished ahead of Columbus (18-26-12, 48 points) by virtue of having more wins.
Domi scored from the slot off a feed from Oliver Bjorkstrand. Cam Atkinson, Bjorkstrand, Eric Robinson and Jack Roslovic scored in regulation for Columbus.
Jakub Vrana, Danny DeKeyser, Sam Gagner and Valtteri Filppula scored for the Red Wings.
