A new campground is nearing completion on Babe Lane in Avila Beach and local businesses are expecting to see a boost in customers when it opens.
The Flying Flags campground has been in the making for years and is now just about six weeks away from its soft opening.
Port San Luis Harbor Manager Andrea Lueker said this means some sites will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, but the phased construction of more sites will continue over the next few months.
Avila Beach already has some coastal RV camping but Lueker said this new campground is meant to be inclusive of all types of stays. It features RV sites, cabins and tent sites all overlooking the ocean and Avila Beach.
