A donation drive organized by state Rep. Mari Manoogian, D-Birmingham, and Fems for Democracy, a nonprofit political advocacy group, resulted in an outpouring of generosity from residents across the state. Volunteers said they’re trying to make life a little more comfortable for children who traveled thousands of miles without their parents. “These are unaccompanied children sent here to find a better life,” said Gina Keller, a board member with Fems for Democracy. “I would just hope that if I was in their shoes, somebody on the receiving end would show kindness and support to my children.
