Blackburn doctor avoids prison AND keeps medical license despite cocaine driving conviction

Hibson Road in Colne A doctor who managed to avoid a custodial sentence after he was caught dangerously driving his BMW while high on cocaine has been told he can keep his licence and continue practising medicine. On November 4 2019, at Burnley Crown Court, Dr Faisal Nawaz was sentenced for one count of dangerous driving, and two counts of driving a motor vehicle with the proportion of a specified controlled drug (cocaine and benzoylecgonine) above the specified limit. The 27-year-old, who is registered as a doctor in Blackburn with Darwen, was sentenced to seven months in prison suspended for 12 months, 100hrs of community unpaid work, 10 days of rehabilitation activity requirement and was disqualified from driving for 24 months.

Police officer used necessary force in arresting Accrington car thief

Adeel Ashraf and the arrest in Accrington A police officer charged with assaulting a car thief will face no further action after prosecutors ruled he used “reasonable, proportionate and necessary force”. Footage of the arrest of Adeel Ashraf which was shared on social media showed him being restrained by a number of officers at the scene in Accrington, on January 8 last year. An investigation from the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) followed which resulted in Pc Saul Hignett, 27, being charged last August with assault by beating of Mr Ashraf. In March 2020, Ashraf, 35, was jailed for 16 months after he pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle-taking and driving without a licence and insurance.

Usha express takeaway in Bacup AN INSPECTOR posing as a customer in a take-away was served a meal which contained traces of peanuts – despite telling the server that he was allergic to the food. Zahangir Hussain showed Gary Singleton, an undercover officer from Trading Standards, the jar of Patak’s curry paste which he had used to make the lamb balti in question, which was later analysed and found to contain peanut protein. Alongside the list of ingredients was a warning that the paste may contain peanuts, something Hussain, the owner of Usha Express in Bacup, maintained he had told Mr Singleton.
