B.C. indoor dining ban: Restaurant association condemns violators, calls for more aid

  VANCOUVER The president of B.C.’s restaurant association says restaurant owners who have defied the temporary COVID-19 public health orders banning indoor dining are selfish and irresponsible. The statement released by the B.C. Restaurant and Foodservices Association Sunday afternoon, comes on the same long weekend that at least two restaurants in Vancouver openly defied the ban and served customers indoors. There is no place for this type of complete disregard for public safety and the rule of law,” said association president Ian Tostenson in the statement. “The actions of a few selfish, arrogant and irresponsible restaurant owners do not in any way reflect the significant effort this industry has made to ensure public safety.”

Multiple drowning kayakers rescued in Burrard Inlet by 'quick thinking citizens': Port Moody police

  VANCOUVER Police in Port Moody are praising the actions of quick thinking citizens who helped rescue multiple kayakers in Burrard Inlet over the weekend. The department posted to Instagram Sunday night, saying several drowning kayakers were rescued earlier that evening. The post says officers commandeered a boat from Rocky Point to help with the rescue. Fire crews and paramedics arrived on scene soon after to treat the men for hypothermia. The kayakers are otherwise fine, the Port Moody Police Department s post says. In a news release issued Tuesday, police said none of the kayakers were wearing life jackets and alcohol is believed to have contributed to the incident.

'Full closure' order issued to Vancouver restaurant after defying COVID-19 indoor dining ban, say police

VANCOUVER Corduroy restaurant has been ordered to shut down, say police. The restaurant served customers indoors, on both Friday and Saturday, in contravention of the province’s COVID-19 restriction banning indoor dining. Vancouver police say they visited Corduroy restaurant on Saturday evening, along with provincial health officers. In a video posted to social media, the restaurant could be seen serving customers indoors on Friday evening. The owner appears in the video, talking with customers and breaking social distancing while not wearing a mask.  Cst. Tania Visintin, a spokesperson for the Vancouver Police Department says health officers, along with the force’s liquor coordinator went to the restaurant on Saturday in response to several complaints they had received throughout the day.

  VANCOUVER More than a dozen notices were posted at grocery stores and pharmacies across B.C. in recent days, warning shoppers and staff of possible COVID-19 exposures. The warnings were issued by parent companies Loblaws and Sobeys after employees at some of their locations recently tested positive for the disease. The latest notices were posted at: Real Canadian Superstore at 32136 Lougheed Hwy. in Mission. A notice was posted on April 1 about two employees; they last worked on March 27.
