ATLANTA â Gov. Brian Kemp has appointed a three-person panel to make a recommendation as to whether Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill should keep his job.
Kemp issued the executive order on May 19 following Hillâs indictment on four counts of violating the civil rights of four inmates at the Clayton County jail.
ATLANTA â Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill pleaded not guilty April 27 after he was indicted by a federal grand jury on four charges of civil rights violations.
The commission, made up of Attorney General Chris Carr, Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams and Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds, has been asked by Kemp to determine if Hillâs indictment adversely affects the administration of his duties such that the rights and interests of the public are adversely affected.

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. - Gov. Brian Kemp has named a three-person panel to review the indictment of Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill.
Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams, and Cherokee County Sheriff Frank Reynolds will make up the review commission.
The three men must determine in the next two weeks whether the indictment against Hill relates to and adversely affect the administration of Hill s duties as a sheriff and whether the governor should suspend Hill from office.
According to the indictment, the sheriff faces four counts of deprivation of federally-protected rights connected to his office s use of restraint chairs against inmates. The indictment also alleges the sheriff ordered his employees to use excessive force at the jail last year.

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia’s governor on Wednesday appointed a panel to determine whether a sheriff accused of violating the civil rights of several people in his custody should be suspended pending the outcome of federal charges.
A federal grand jury last month indicted Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill. The indictment accuses the sheriff of repeatedly ordering detainees to be put in a restraint chair for hours even though they posed no threat and had complied with deputies. The indictment alleges the restraint chairs were improperly used as punishment.
