After going down 2-0 to Minnesota United FC in the first half, it appeared as though the Colorado Rapids might be on their way to another home loss.
But whatever Robin Fraser told the players in the locker room at halftime, worked.
The Rapids came out with a renewed energy and put consistent pressure on the Loons. It paid off 10 minutes into the second half when Kellyn Acosta opened scoring for Colorado with a volley at the top of the box.
From distance!
After hitting the woodwork earlier in the match, Cole Bassett found the equalizer in the 71st minute. Bassett subbed in for DP Younes Namli in the first half after Namli went down with an injury.

A banger of a free kick from Diego Rubio made all the difference tonight as the Colorado Rapids defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 1-0 in Rio Tinto Stadium.
For the first 26 minutes, it was either side’s game to win as both offenses forced the goalkeepers (and their defenders) to put in work. Andre Shinyashiki has a couple of misses that he’ll surely want back while a bad pass from William Yarbrough nearly gave Déiber Caicedo his first MLS goal.
And then a Vancouver foul gave the Rapids a free kick at the top of the box around the 30-yard line in the 26th minute. Not only did Diego Rubio find the back of the net, he could not have placed the ball any better.

Ugh.
The game against Austin FC really didn’t go as the Colorado Rapids had hoped.
Let’s not mince words, we came out with no energy in the second half and played 11 of some of the worst minutes of soccer we’ve seen from this team so far. Three goals, three points for an expansion team, and handing them their first win in club history. For the first time having fans back in over a year, that left a dang sour taste in our mouths. But, that was only the second game of a long season no need to hit the panic button just yet.
