Vadodara: It is not just the Baroda men’s team that seems deprived of being guided by experienced coach like former Aussie cricketer, Dav Whatmore, even Baroda Cricket Association’s (BCA) women’s team shares the same uncertainty.
After former India cricketer Devika Palshikar, who was roped in as an assistant coach for Baroda women’s team, refused citing previous engagement, Anju Jain, who was roped in as senior women’s team coach, is yet to accept the assignment.
“We had decided to hire Jain some months ago and the letter of intent was also given. The BCA recently sent her a mail and asked her to join the association but Anju hasn’t confirmed her appointment yet. We have given her a week’s time to confirm,” said Satyajit Gaekwad, chairman, press and publicity committee.

Vadodara: Three weeks before they go into an important national T20 cricket tournament, the Baroda cricket team has been left in the lurch.
Former Aussie cricketer Dav Whatmore, who was hired as head coach of Ranji team by Baroda Cricket Association (BCA), has said that he won’t be taking up the assignment.
A BCA statement said that Whatmore won’t be able to take up the assignment due to visa/immigration embargo on travelling to India on business visa due to Covid restrictions on travel.
He informed BCA CEO Shishir Hattangadi about his unavailability a couple of days ago following which the latter sent a mail to the apex council members on Friday.
VADODARA: Cricket loving Barodians may miss out on the live action during the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Tournament that is being hosted by Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) in the city. While the association has begun preparations for the tournament, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to decide on entry of the spectators.
“We have been informed about the tournament fixtures by the cricket board. But the guidelines about allowing entry of spectators are yet to be released. We are not sure if people will be allowed at the ground to watch the matches live due to Covid-19 guidelines and the risk of infection,” said a BCA official. The association hasn’t decided even on the grounds that will host the matches as it is waiting for the guidelines from the BCCI for the players’ safety.
