It won a clear majority in all 31 district panchayats as well as in 196 out of 231 taluka panchayats and 74 out of 81 municipalities.

The Congress, the main opposition party in the state, won a clear majority in only one municipality and 18 taluka panchayats, while AIMIM and AAP also made their presence felt.

On Tuesday, the ruling BJP won all the 31 district panchayats, 70 out of 81 municipalities, and was far ahead of its main rival Congress in the 231 taluka panchayats.

Gandhinagar, March 1 : There was an average of around 64% polling in the local body elections for municipalities, district and tehsil panchayats in Gujarat on Sunday. Voting for 8,473 seats in municipalities, 980 in district panchayats and 4,773 in taluka panchayats took place across 36,008 booths. The counting of votes will take place on March 2.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), around 64 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the elections to Gujarat s 81 municipalities, 31 district panchayats and 231 taluka panchayats which were held in a largely peaceful manner.
Gujarat votes for 8,743 seats in various local bodies today - The SEC said in its press release that the counting of the votes and declaration of the results of these polls will take place on March 2.
