Ver. Rev. Archimandrite Demetrios Simeonidis Obituary
Ver. Rev. Archimandrite Demetrios Simeonidis (July 31, 1938), lovingly known as Father D., fell asleep in the Lord Sunday, February 14, 2021. He served the Holy Greek Orthodox Church faithfully for fifty-two years, becoming a guiding light, Spiritual Father, and dear friend to thousands of people he met throughout his ministry. All who met Father Demetrios loved him. He was humble, kind, generous, and wise, and exemplified every day what it means to live a Christ-centered life.
Father Demetrios was raised in Hamilton, Ontario, where he felt his calling to the priesthood at an early age and left his home in 1957 to attend Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts. After graduating in 1964, he headed west to serve at the Assumption Cathedral as Youth Director and Greek School teacher in Denver, Colorado. WEIRTON The fourth-annual Pan-Orthodox Great Blessing of the Ohio River will be held at the Steubenville Marina on Sunday, beginning at 2 p.m.
The parishes involved include St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Weirton, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Steubenville and the Orthodox Church of the Life-Giving Fountain in Martins Ferry along with other clergy and faithful from surrounding areas.
The blessing is done in conjunction with the Feast of Holy Theophany where Christ was baptized by John in the Jordan River, whereby sanctifying the waters. The river blessing and service have become an annual January event, bringing together the Orthodox Churches and their faithful for a joint service.

PORTLAND – Taxia “Tess” Efthimion Paras passed away peacefully from respiratory failure following a recent surgery on Friday, Dec. 25, 2020 at Maine Medical Center. She did not have COVID-19.
Taxia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Peter and Caroline Paras and daughter, Mari Anne Paraskevas; her sister, Katherine Waite, brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Deborah Efthimion; and many nieces and nephews whom she adored.
She is predeceased by her husband of 57 years, James Paras (born Paraskevas).
