Hong Kong primary school teacher driven to suicide by actions of principal, coroner rules

South China Morning Post A teacher at a Hong Kong primary school was driven to suicide by the actions of the principal who pressured her to resign, a coroner has said. Lam Lai-tong fell to her death from a building at TWGHs Leo Tung-Hai Lee Primary School in Tin Shui Wai in 2019, after repeated run-ins with then headmistress Law Yuen-yee. Coroner Monica Chow said the tragedy could have been prevented, and pointed to a failure in the complaint mechanism with the school’s sponsoring body, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, as well as lack of support and care from her colleagues, as a contributing factor.

Train services in Hong Kong disrupted after man jumps onto tracks, later found dead

January 08, 2021 Passengers wait for an MTR train in Hong Kong. South China Morning Post Train services between Fanling and the Hong Kong border town of Sheung Shui were suspended for nearly an hour on Thursday (Jan 7) after a man jumped onto the tracks at around 2pm and was later found dead. Police said the victim was discovered underneath a train at Sheung Shui station. His personal details were still unclear. “We don’t know whether the person jumped onto the tracks or fell onto them,” a force spokesman said, adding emergency personnel had been deployed. But the MTR Corporation later said security camera footage showed the man had jumped onto the tracks when a train was approaching the platform.

Ngao Police Station was alerted on Monday to the fire at a house in Ban Mai Jaroen Suk village in Luang Tai subdistrict of Ngao district. Firefighters took around 10 minutes to put out the flames in the wooden two-storey house. Police found the charred body of Sawas Wikaha, aged 59 years, a farmer and owner of the house in the damaged house. Police contacted his wife who reportedly said that they had separated for about four months. Sawas reportedly went to her and asked to get back together before the incident, but she refused.
