SuperTruck 3 Pushes for Electrification of Freight Trucks

The Department of Energy intends to provide up to $100 million in funding to push for the electrification of freight trucks of all sizes as part of its new SuperTruck 3 program.
A parallel, separately funded, effort will be aimed at reducing emissions and increasing efficiencies for on- and off-road vehicles, among other goals.
Transportation accounts for approximately 30% of total U.S. energy needs and generates the largest share of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to DOE.

Brake systems/brake adjustment can contribute to a range of issues that are easily averted through regular pre-trip inspections and preventive maintenance, the company said. Drivers should always conduct standard walk-arounds – pre- and post-trip inspections – before and after hitting the road. Look for visible problems such as loose hoses or damaged components like air chambers or pushrods, for example. Earlier, in the shop, air brake system inspections should include the following points:
Conducting a 90- to 100-psi brake application and listening for leaks
Measuring chamber stroke at each wheel-end to ensure proper brake adjustment

The American Trucking Associations Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC) announced Monday a partnership with Decisiv to produce a new industry benchmarking tool that will track key performance indicators for commercial vehicle parts and labor based on the TMC s widely adopted Vehicle Maintenance Reporting Standards (VMRS). This new partnership between TMC and Decisiv offers council fleet members a great benefit to help them benchmark their overall parts and labor costs against actual costs captured in the Decisiv SRM platform, says TMC Executive Director Robert Braswell.
