UWSP Wausau, Marshfield to Restart Intercollegiate Athletics This Fall

WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — UWSP-Wausau athletics will be competing in a new league beginning this fall following a one-year hiatus due to COVID-19. Officials from three University of Wisconsin campuses announced the creation of the Wisconsin Competitive Sports League, which will begin play in September with seven institutions including UWSP Wausau and Marshfield. “The seven of us are going to compete in a conference schedule with eligibility for some non-conference play,” said Bill Gibbs, the head men’s basketball coach and Athletic Director for UWSP Wausau. “We’re just excited to get it back.” In addition to the Marshfield and Wausau schools, the three branch campuses of UW Green Bay (Sheboygan, Manitowoc, and Marinette) and Oshkosh (Fond du Lac, Fox Cities) will also participate, giving the league seven members. Stones were carried 600 miles across the US in DINOSAUR bellies

Stones were carried 600 miles across the US in DINOSAUR bellies Ian Randall For Mailonline © Provided by Daily Mail MailOnline logo Large lumps of pink quartzite were transported some 600 miles across what is today the American Midwest in the bellies of long-necked dinosaurs, a study concluded.  Researchers from the US explained that the giant sauropods likely swallowed the stomach stones, known as gastroliths , to help grind up food they had eaten. The gastroliths ended up being buried in Wyoming s Morrison Depositional Basin during the Late Jurassic, 155–148 million years ago, when the dinosaurs perished. The team knew the stones could not have originated there, as pink quartzite in North America is only found deposited in Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Wisconsin.
