Officer assaulted during arrest – Chippendale
Inquiries are continuing after a police officer required hospital treatment after being assaulted in the City overnight.
About 1.20am (Sunday 4 April 2021), a male sergeant from the Police Transport Command was patrolling Regent Street, Chippendale, after three men were reported to be acting suspiciously.
After speaking with them, the officer found bank cheques and a credit card allegedly in the possession of one man; however, none of these items belonged to any of the men present.
The 25-year-old man was informed he’d be arrested but he allegedly ran from the scene.
After a brief foot pursuit, the sergeant was able to restrain the man where he allegedly resisted violently. During the struggle the sergeant was grabbed on the groin and bitten on the left forearm.
